Absolwent V Liceum Ogólnokształcącego im. Augusta Witkowskiego w Krakowie. Studiował w Wydziale Architektury Politechniki Krakowskiej i na Uniwersytecie Tennessee (University of Tennessee) w Knoxville (USA). W listopadzie 2000 r. ukończył architekturę i urbanistykę, uzyskując dyplom z wyróżnieniem i akredytacją RIBA.Od 2001 r. pracuje w Katedrze Urbanistyki i Architektury Struktur Miejskich PK (do 1 października 2020 r. : Instytucie Projektowania Urbanistycznego).
Dysertację doktorską pt. „Rola muzeów przełomu wieków XX i XXI w tworzeniu miejskiej przestrzeni publicznej”,przygotowaną pod kierunkiemprof. dr. hab. inż. arch. Andrzeja Wyżykowskiego, obronił z wyróżnieniem na Wydziale Architektury PK w 2005 r. Stopień naukowy doktora habilitowanego w dziedzinie nauk technicznych, w dyscyplinie architektura i urbanistyka oraz specjalności teoria i projektowanie urbanistyczno-architektoniczne uzyskał w kwietniu 2014 r. Na podstawie dorobku naukowego, dydaktycznego, twórczego i organizacyjnego oraz wskazanego osiągnięcia — monografii „Polskie przestrzenie kultury — wybrane zagadnienia” (Wydawnictwo PK, Kraków 2019) prezydent RP Andrzej Duda decyzją z 11 maja 2020 r. przyznał mu tytuł profesora w dziedzinie nauk inżynieryjno-technicznych.
W kręgu jego naukowych zainteresowań znajdują się zagadnienia współczesnego kształtowania zespołów urbanistycznych. Główne nurty badawcze dotyczą: przestrzeni kultury i ich roli w kompozycji urbanistycznej i rewitalizacji zdegradowanych obszarów śródmiejskich oraz kreacji współczesnych przestrzeni publicznych w miastach; rewitalizacji (zwłaszcza obszarów poprzemysłowych i wielkoskalarnych osiedli mieszkaniowych); wielorodzinnej architektury mieszkaniowej w kontekście współczesnych kreacji lub zaniku miejskich przestrzeni publicznych; współczesnych zjawisk urbanizacyjnych — metropolizacji i eksurbanizacji. Jest członkiem Interdyscyplinarnego Centrum Gospodarki Obiegu Zamkniętego przy Politechnice Krakowskiej.
Od 2008 r. współpracuje z Politechniką Katalońską (Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya) w Barcelonie (z Centre de Política de Sòl i Valoracions, Departament de Construccions Arquitectòniques I, Escuela Tecnica Superior de Arquitectura de Barcelona oraz Departament d”Urbanisme i Ordinació del Trerritori, DUOT, Escuela Tecnica Superior d’Arquitectura de Valles). W latach 2010–2015 uczestniczył jako ekspert w realizacji dwóch międzynarodowych projektach badawczych, prowadzonych przez tę uczelnię. Wspólnie z hiszpańskimi naukowcami prowadzi badania związane z przekształceniami struktur urbanistycznych. W latach 2016–2017 kierował międzynarodowym, interdyscyplinarnym zespołem badawczym, opracowującym dla Biura Planowania Przestrzennego UM Krakowa dwuetapowy projekt badawczo-rozwojowy pt. „Model przestrzennej struktury Krakowa — perspektywa planistyczna”. W latach 2024-2026 realizuje, jako kierownik zespołu, wraz z partnerami z kilkunastu instytucji z Hiszpanii, Polski i Rumunii projekt badawczy WECARE finansowany z funduszy europejskich w ramach konkursu CREA-CULT-2023-COOP-1 w programie CREA2027. Uczestniczy również w projektach badawczych i badawczo-rozwojowych, a także dydaktycznych prowadzonych na Wydziale Architektury PK (np. POWER).
W dorobku naukowym ma — jako autor i współautor — ponad 100 publikacji, w tym 3 autorskie monografie. Ponadto był redaktorem naukowym (i współautorem) kilkunastu monografii w języku angielskim, m.in.: cyklu „Future of the Cities — Cities of the Future” (Wydawnictwo PK, 2014); „Hybrid urban structures” (Wydawnictwo PK, 2016) czy „Back to the Sense of the City” (CPSV UPC, Barcelona 2016). Był recenzentem wydawniczym licznych książek naukowych oraz rozdziałów w wieloautorskich monografiach wydanych w latach 2014–2022 w krajowych i zagranicznych wydawnictwach naukowych. Recenzował kilkadziesiąt artykułów dla redakcji czasopism naukowych: „ACE — Arquitectura, Ciudad y Entorno”; ” Teka Komisji Urbanistyki i Architektury PAN o/ Kraków”; „Sustainability”; „ World Transactions on Engineering and Technology Education ”, „Technical Transactions”; „Architectus”; „Archivolta”; „Buildings”, „International Journal of Envirnomental Research and Public Health”; „Land”; „Urban Studies”; „Journal of Urban Ethnology” , oraz „Państwo i Społeczeństwo”.

Był członkiem rad naukowych oraz występował na konferencjach i kongresach: „Ciudad y Territorio Virtual / City and Virtual Territory” [Kraków, 2016; Mendoza (Argentyna), 2018; Barcelona, 2019] i organizowanych na PK konferencji FOTC-COTF (2012–2014) i Arch-Eco (2014–2020) a także Urban Composition of Resilient City oraz Architektura-Miasto-Piękno (2021); Multikoferencji Dream Silesia (2022), Aglomeracje- Rozwój, Wyzwania, Przestrzeń (2023), , MIaSTo (2025), Definiowanie Przestrzeni Architektonicznej (2024,2025) . Jest współprzewodniczącym rad naukowych konferencji z cyklu Wise City- Theory & Practice (2023, 2024, 2025, 2027).
Prowadzi zajęcia w języku polskim i angielskim na I i II stopniu studiów kierunku architektura z przedmiotów projektowych i pomocniczych, a także wykłady i warsztaty na studiach III stopnia, w Szkole Doktorskiej PK i studiach podyplomowych w Politechnice Krakowskiej i Politechnice Poznańskiej. Od 2005 roku był promotorem i promotorem pomocniczym ponad 100 prac dyplomowych magisterskich, w tym ponad 20 w języku angielskim, oraz ponad 70 prac inżynierskich na kierunku architektura (do 2010 architektura i urbanistyka). Kilkanaście z nich zostało nominowanych do nagród, wyróżnionych lub nagrodzonych w ogólnopolskich i międzynarodowych konkursach. Był także promotorem i promotorem pomocniczym kilku prac dyplomowych na międzywydziałowym kierunku gospodarka przestrzenna (w latach 2018–2019). Zrecenzował ponad 80 prac inżynierskich i magisterskich studentów Wydziału Architektury PK.
Jest promotorem 5 ukończonych przewodów doktorskich w Wydziale Architektury PK (3 prace nagrodzono) oraz promotorem lub opiekunem naukowym kilku kolejnych doktorantów. Zrecenzował kilkanaście rozpraw doktorskich, uczestniczył też jako recenzent, sekretarz lub członek komisji w przewodach habilitacyjnych i przewodach profesorskich.
Angażuje się w realizację międzynarodowych programów dydaktycznych na WA PK od 2001 r. (Erasmus, Tennessee, IP LOCUS). W latach 2011–2019 odbywał staże naukowo-dydaktyczne na politechnikach w Barcelonie (Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya- BARCELONA_TECH) i w Mediolanie (Politecnico di Milano) oraz w Wyższej Szkole Technicznej we Frankfurcie (Frankfurt University of Applied Science). W latach 2013–2014 był wydziałowym koordynatorem w projekcie LLP Erasmus IP VALUABLE_RESIDE. Pełnił funkcję organizatora, prowadzącego oraz sędziego podczas międzynarodowych warsztatów studenckich: LOCUS (Girona, 2008); Eco-Rehab (Barcelona, 2011; Kraków, 2012; Mediolan, 2013); ECOWEEK (Kraków, 2013) oraz OSSA (Kraków 2004, 2008). Z jego inicjatywy podpisano umowy o współpracy naukowo-dydaktycznej PK z 6 uczelniami z Hiszpanii, Rumunii i Szwecji. Włącza się we współpracę IPU z samorządami i otoczeniem gospodarczym (Kraków, Nowy Sącz, Tarnów, Koźmin Wielkopolski, Mysłowice; Wolbrom, Biały Dunajec; firmy: Wiśniowski oraz Alu-Prof).
Czynny architekt — od 2000 roku współpracuje z biurami projektów w Krakowie, Nowym Jorku, Barcelonie i Pampelunie. Jest autorem i współautorem kilkudziesięciu projektów konkursowych, koncepcyjnych, architektoniczno-budowlanych i wykonawczych, urbanistycznych oraz projektów modernizacji, adaptacji i rewaloryzacji obiektów i zespołów objętych ochroną konserwatorską. Projektuje witraże, wnętrza i meble.
Należy do organizacji zawodowych: SARP, TUP, SKZ, MPOIA.
Od 2016 r. jest członkiem, a od 2023 Przewodniczącym Komisji Urbanistyki i Architektury PAN oddział w Krakowie.
Od 2020 należy do Sekcji Urbanistyki Komitetu Architektury i Urbanistyki Polskiej Akademii Nauk.
Od 2024 jest także członkiem z wyboru Komitetu Architektury i Urbanistyki Polskiej Akademii Nauk.
Jest członkiem Kolegium Redakcyjnego Wydawnictw Naukowych PK (od 2016) oraz redaktorem tematycznym (sekcji: architektura i urbanistyka) czasopisma naukowego Technical Transactions (d. Czasopismo Techniczne); redaktorem naczelnym czasopisma naukowego PUA — Przestrzeń — Urbanistyka — Architektura (od 2017 ).
W latach 2019–2020 był zastępcą dyrektora Instytutu Projektowania Urbanistycznego Wydziału Architektury Politechniki Krakowskiej . W latach 2018-2024 przewodniczący Wydziałowej Komisji ds. przewodów doktorskich w zakresie architektury, urbanistyki i planowania przestrzennego K3.
Członek Senatu Akademickiego Politechniki Krakowskiej w kadencjach 2020–2024 i 2024-2028.

A graduate of the August Witkowski High School No. 5 in Krakow. He studied at the Faculty of Architecture of the Cracow University of Technology and at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville (USA). In November 2000, he graduated with honours in architecture and urban planning, obtaining a diploma with distinction and RIBA accreditation.Since 2001, he has been working at the Chair of Urbanism and City Structure Architecture at the Faculty of Architecture of Cracow University of Technology (until 1 October 2020: Institute of Urban Design).
He defended his doctoral dissertation entitled ‘The role of museums at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries in the creation of urban public space’, prepared under the supervision of Prof. Andrzej Wyżykowski, PhD, Eng. Arch., with honours at the Faculty of Architecture of the CUT in 2005. He obtained his postdoctoral degree (habilitation) in technical sciences, in the discipline of architecture and urban planning and the specialisation of urban and architectural theory and design, in April 2014. On the basis of his scientific, teaching, creative and organisational achievements and the aforementioned monograph ‘Polish cultural spaces — selected issues’ (Wydawnictwo PK, Kraków 2019), the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda, awarded him the title of professor in the field of engineering and technical sciences by decision of 11 May 2020.
His scientific interests include issues related to the contemporary design of urban complexes. His main areas of research concern: cultural spaces and their role in urban composition and the revitalisation of degraded inner-city areas, as well as the creation of contemporary public spaces in cities; revitalisation (especially of post-industrial areas and large-scale housing estates); multi-family residential architecture in the context of contemporary creations or the disappearance of urban public spaces; contemporary urbanisation phenomena — metropolisation and exurbanisation. He is a member of Cracow University of Technology, Interdisciplinary Center for Circular Economy.
Since 2008, he has been collaborating with the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya) in Barcelona (with the Centre de Política de Sòl i Valoracions, Departament de Construccions Arquitectòniques I, Escuela Tecnica Superior de Arquitectura de Barcelona and Departament d’Urbanisme i Ordinació del Trerritori, DUOT, Escuela Tecnica Superior d’Arquitectura de Valles). Between 2010 and 2015, he participated as an expert in two international research projects conducted by this university. Together with Spanish scientists, he conducts research related to the transformation of urban structures. In 2016–2017, he led an international, interdisciplinary research team developing a two-stage research and development project for the Spatial Planning Office of the City of Krakow entitled ‘Model of the spatial structure of Krakow — a planning perspective’. In 2024-2026, as team leader, together with partners from several institutions in Spain, Poland and Romania, he is implementing the WECARE research project, financed by European funds under the CREA-CULT-2023-COOP-1 competition in the CREA2027 programme. He also participates in research and development projects, as well as teaching projects conducted at the Faculty of Architecture of the Cracow University of Technology (e.g. POWER).
His scientific achievements include over 100 publications as an author and co-author, including three monographs. In addition, he was the scientific editor (and co-author) of several monographs in English, including: the series ‘Future of the Cities — Cities of the Future’ (PK Publishing House, 2014); ‘Hybrid urban structures’ (PK Publishing House, 2016) and ‘Back to the Sense of the City’ (CPSV UPC, Barcelona 2016). He was a reviewer for numerous scientific books and chapters in multi-author monographs published since 2014 by domestic and foreign scientific publishers. He teaches design and auxiliary subjects in Polish and English at the first and second cycle of architecture studies, as well as lectures and workshops at the third cycle of studies, at the PK Doctoral School and postgraduate studies at the Krakow University of Technology and the Poznań University of Technology. Since 2005, he has been the supervisor and co-supervisor of over 100 master’s theses, including over 20 in English, and over 70 engineering theses in architecture (until 2010, architecture and urban planning). Several of them have been nominated for awards, distinguished or awarded in national and international competitions. He was also the supervisor and co-supervisor of several theses in the inter-faculty field of spatial management (in 2018–2019). He has reviewed over 80 engineering and master’s theses by students of the Faculty of Architecture at the CUT.
He is the supervisor of five completed doctoral theses at the Faculty of Architecture of the CUT (three of which have been awarded) and the supervisor or academic advisor of several other doctoral students. He has reviewed over a dozen doctoral dissertations and has also participated as a reviewer, secretary or member of the committee in habilitation processes and the procedures for the title of professor in the discipline ‘architecture and urbanism’.
He has been involved in the implementation of international teaching programmes at the Faculty of Architecture of the CUT since 2001 (Erasmus, Tennessee, IP LOCUS). In 2011–2019, he completed research and teaching internships at technical universities in Barcelona (Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya- BARCELONA_TECH) and Milan (Politecnico di Milano) as well as at the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences. In 2013–2014, he was the faculty coordinator for the LLP Erasmus IP VALUABLE_RESIDE project. Hewas the organiser, leader and judge during international student workshops: LOCUS (Girona, 2008); Eco-Rehab (Barcelona, 2011; Krakow, 2012; Milan, 2013); ECOWEEK (Krakow, 2013) and OSSA (Krakow 2004, 2008). On his initiative, agreements on scientific and educational cooperation between PK and six universities in Spain, Romania and Sweden were signed. He is involved in cooperation between the Faculty and local governments and the business community (Krakow, Nowy Sącz, Tarnów, Koźmin Wielkopolski, Mysłowice; Wolbrom, Biały Dunajec; companies: Wiśniowski and Alu-Prof).
An active architect, he has been cooperating with design offices in Krakow, New York, Barcelona and Pamplona since 2000. He is the author and co-author of dozens of competition, conceptual, architectural, construction, and executive designs, urban plans, and designs for the modernisation, adaptation, and restoration of buildings and complexes under conservation protection. He designs stained glass, interiors, and furniture.
He is a member of the following professional organisations: SARP, TUP, SKZ, MPOIA.
Since 2016, he has been a member of the Urban Planning and Architecture Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Krakow branch, and since 2023, its chairman.
Since 2020, he has been a member of the Urban Planning Section of the Architecture and Urban Planning Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
Since 2024, he has also been an elected member of the Architecture and Urban Planning Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
He has been a member of the Editorial Board of PK Scientific Publications (since 2016) and a subject editor (sections: architecture and urban planning) of the scientific journal Technical Transactions (formerly Czasopismo Techniczne); editor-in-chief of the scientific journal PUA — Przestrzeń — Urbanistyka — Architektura (since 2017).
In 2019–2020, he was the deputy director of the Institute of Urban Design at the Faculty of Architecture of the Krakow University of Technology. In 2018–2024, he was the chair of the Faculty Committee for doctoral dissertations in the field of architecture, urbanism and spatial planning K3.
