Absolwentka Wydziału Architektury Politechniki Krakowskiej. Jednolite studia magisterskie ukończyła w 2004 roku, uzyskując dyplom WA PK z akredytacją RIBA. Studiowała również na Brandenburgische Technische Universität w Cottbus. Podczas studiów doktoranckich, które podjęła w 2010 roku na macierzystej uczelni, otrzymywała stypendium naukowe programu „Politechnika XXI wieku”, a także odbyła staż na Technische Universität Wien w ramach programu CEEPUS. Studia te ukończyła w 2014 roku, zaś pracę doktorską pt. „Rola rewitalizacji osiedli mieszkaniowych w kreowaniu ciągłości i komplementarności przestrzeni publicznych współczesnego miasta” z wyróżnieniem obroniła w 2017 roku. W 2018 roku otrzymała za nią Nagrodę Ministra Inwestycji i Rozwoju.
Od 2014 roku zatrudniona jest na Wydziale Architektury Politechniki Krakowskiej. Jej obszar badań skupia się m.in. na zagadnieniach dotyczących kształtowania wartościowego środowiska mieszkaniowego, w tym rewitalizacji osiedli mieszkaniowych z drugiej połowy XX wieku, jak również na problematyce związanej z kreowaniem przestrzeni publicznych dostosowanych do potrzeb społeczeństwa XXI wieku, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem aspektu ciągłości tych przestrzeni oraz budowania ich systemu powiązań.
Jest autorką i współautorką publikacji naukowych krajowych i zagranicznych. Uczestniczyła w wymianie międzynarodowej kadry naukowo-dydaktycznej w ramach sieci „CROSS/HOUSE: Sustainable Housing – Cross-Cultural Society” programu CEEPUS. Brała udział w projekcie European Middle Class Mass Housing (MCMH-EU). Jest członkinią międzynarodowego grantu pt. „Warding Ecosystem Commons Through Action-Research & Education – WECARE” w ramach konkursu organizowanego przez Komisję Europejską pn. CREA-CULT-2023-COOP.
Prowadzi zajęcia dydaktyczne w języku polskim i angielskim na studiach I i II stopnia WA PK, w tym dla studentów programu Tennessee, a od 2021 roku w ramach International School of Engineering. Oprócz regularnych kursów działalność dydaktyczną realizuje w formie warsztatów studenckich – uczestnicząc w roli prowadzącej w międzynarodowych warsztatach (m.in. Territori in Evoluzione, Ecoweek, Eco Rehab, Intbau), a także jako prowadząca, a następnie współorganizatorka, z ramienia WA PK, warsztatów odbywających się w corocznym cyklu wraz z uczelnią HAWK University (Niemcy) oraz – od 2017 roku – University of Mons (Belgia) i PPWSZ (Nowy Targ).
Wieloletnie doświadczenie zawodowe zdobyła m.in. w biurach architektonicznych w Dublinie i Krakowie.

PhD Eng. Architect Eliza Szczerek
A graduate of the Faculty of Architecture at the Cracow University of Technology. She completed her integrated Master’s degree programme in 2004, obtaining a diploma from the Faculty of Architecture of CUT with RIBA accreditation. She also studied at Brandenburgische Technische Universität in Cottbus. During her doctoral studies, which she began in 2010 at her home university, she received a research scholarship under the “University of Technology of the 21st Century” programme and completed a research internship at Technische Universität Wien within the CEEPUS programme. She completed her doctoral studies in 2014, and in 2017 she defended her PhD dissertation with distinction, entitled “The role of revitalisation of housing estates in creating continuity and complementarity of public spaces in the contemporary city”. In 2018, she received the Award of the Minister of Investment and Development for this work.
Since 2014, she has been employed at the Faculty of Architecture of the Cracow University of Technology. Her research interests focus, among other things, on issues related to shaping a high-quality residential environment, including the revitalisation of housing estates from the second half of the 20th century, as well as on problems connected with the creation of public spaces adapted to the needs of 21st-century society, with particular emphasis on the continuity of these spaces and the development of their network of interconnections.
She is the author and co-author of national and international scientific publications. She has participated in international academic staff exchanges within the CEEPUS network “CROSS/HOUSE: Sustainable Housing – Cross-Cultural Society.” She took part in the European Middle Class Mass Housing (MCMH-EU) project and is a member of the international grant project “Warding Ecosystem Commons Through Action-Research & Education – WECARE”, funded under the European Commission call CREA-CULT-2023-COOP.
She teaches courses in Polish and English in first- and second-cycle degree programmes at the Faculty of Architecture of CUT, including courses for students of the Tennessee programme, and since 2021 within the International School of Engineering. In addition to regular courses, she organises and supervises student workshops—participating as a tutor in international workshops (including Territori in Evoluzione, Ecoweek, Eco Rehab, Intbau), as well as acting as an instructor and later co-organiser, on behalf of the Faculty of Architecture of CUT, of workshops held annually in cooperation with HAWK University (Germany) and—since 2017—the University of Mons (Belgium) and PPWSZ (Nowy Targ).
She has many years of professional experience in architectural offices in Dublin and Kraków.
