D O R O B E K   N A U K O W Y

W 1995 r. ukończyłam z wyróżnieniem 5 letnie studia na kierunku architektura i urbanistyka na Wydziale Architektury Politechniki Krakowskiej. Pracę dyplomową zatytułowaną – „Rewitalizacja fragmentu nadbrzeży Kopenhagi” – wykonałam pod kierunkiem Prof. Andrzeja Wyżykowskiego. Praca nominowana została do Nagrody SARP dyplom roku 1995 i była prezentowana w Galerii Foksal na wystawie najlepszych polskich dyplomów. Podczas studiów odbyłam staż w Instytucie Urbanistyki na UPC Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya w Barcelonie pod kierunkiem Prof. Joan’a Busquets (1991). W 1991 i 1992 odbyłam praktyki wakacyjne z zakresu konserwacji obiektów zabytkowych w Prowansji w ramach L’APARE. Otrzymałam roczne stypendium w College of Architecture and Planning na University of Tennessee w Knoxville, w USA (1992–1993), realizując studia częściowe na kierunku architektura. W latach 1993-94 realizowałam staż zawodowy pod kierunkiem Prof. Thoma Mayne w Morphosis Architects w Los Angeles.

Podczas studiów doktoranckich na Wydziale Architektury Politechniki Krakowskiej (1997–2000) byłam stypendystą Programu Tempus PHARE realizując 4 miesięczny staż naukowy w Instituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia IUAV (1997), pod kierunkiem Prof. Gianugo Polesello. Otrzymałam Grant Promotorski KBN (2000-2003) na realizację pracy naukowej, pt. „Kształtowanie współczesnych przekrytych przestrzeni publicznych i ich znaczenie w procesie rewitalizacji przestrzeni miejskich”. Pracę doktorską pod tym samym tytułem obroniłam na Wydziale Architektury PK w 2003 r. w specjalności urbanistyka i planowanie przestrzenne. Promotorem pracy był Prof. Andrzej Wyżykowski. W 2002 roku współorganizowałam Sympozjum międzynarodowe dotyczące krajów Europy Środkowej we współpracy z Technische UniversitätGraz i Austriackim Konsulatem Generalnym. Byłam autorem koncepcji wystawy architektury polskiej i austriackiej w Bibliotece Jagiellońskiej, towarzyszącej Sympozjum.

W latach 2009–2012 byłam koordynatorem i prowadziłam wraz z Prof. Krzysztofem Biedą międzynarodowy projekt naukowo-dydaktyczny „Facing Impact of the Second World War ― Urban Design in Contemporary European Cities”. Wyniki prac badawczych, prowadzonych we współpracy międzynarodowej, upowszechniłam w pracy habilitacyjnej „Miasto i wojna — wpływ II wojny światowej na przekształcenia struktury przestrzennej i współczesną kondycję urbanistyczną wybranych miast europejskich” (Wydawnictwo PK, Kraków 2019). Monografia otrzymała Nagrodę Ministra Rozwoju w 2020 r. 8 stycznia 2020 r. Rada Naukowa Wydziału Architektury PK nadała mi stopień doktora habilitowanego w dziedzinie nauk technicznych, w dyscyplinie architektura i urbanistyka. Od 1 marca 2020 r. jestem profesorem Politechniki Krakowskiej.

Od 2001 r. jestem związana z Instytutem Projektowania Urbanistycznego Politechniki Krakowskiej. Pracowałam w Katedrze Rewaloryzacji i Rozwoju Zespołów Urbanistycznych (KRiRZU), następnie w Zakładzie Kształtowania Przestrzeni Komunikacyjnych, początkowo jako asystent naukowo-dydaktyczny, od 2007 r. — jako adiunkt. W latach 2013-2019 byłam Zastępcą Dyrektora Instytutu Projektowania Urbanistycznego. Od momentu jej powołania, czyli od 2020 roku jestem Kierownikiem Katedry Urbanistyki i Architektury Struktur Miejskich A-9.

Jestem autorem i współautorem ponad 80 publikacji naukowych i 25 publikacji popularno-naukowych z zakresu urbanistyki i architektury,  w tym licznych publikacji wysoko punktowanych i notowanych w bazach Scopus i Web of Science. Autorem  monografii (wybitnej) i współautorem 3 kolejnych.  Mam w dorobku ponad 40 wystąpień z zakresu urbanistyki i planowania, na konferencjach międzynarodowych i krajowych, w tym na konferencjach międzynarodowych m.in. w Barcelonie, Pradze, Grazu, Bejrucie i Petersburgu, a także wykłady na uczelniach europejskich – m.in. na TU Wien i HTW Dresden, w Rotterdamie. Moje badania dotyczą procesów urbanistycznych w obszarach przekształceń i odbudowy po II wojnie światowej, a także dostosowania do zmian klimatu, uwarunkowań komunikacyjnych.

Jestem również ekspertem z zakresu przestrzeni bezpiecznych społecznie. Badania w tej dziedzinie rozpoczęła w 2003 r., wspólnie z zespołem Zakładem Rewaloryzacji i Rozwoju Zespołów urbanistycznych realizując Grant KBN (2003-2004) pod kierunkiem Prof. zw. dr hab. inż. arch. Andrzeja Wyżykowskiego i opracowując monografię „Przestrzeń bezpieczna. Urbanistyczne i architektoniczne uwarunkowania kształtowania przestrzeni miejskiej dla zwiększenia bezpieczeństwa mieszkańców” (2004). Współpracowałam z małopolskimi instytucjami w ramach programów „Bezpieczne Gimnazjum” i „Bezpieczna Szkoła” wykonując społecznie kilkadziesiąt audytów szkół w Województwie Małopolskim i Krakowie (wraz z Dr inż. arch. Krzysztofem Kwiatkowskim). W ostatnich latach przy współpracy z Uniwersytetem Jagiellońskim (2018-19) brałam udział w programie  „Bezpieczny Kraków” na rzecz Urzędu Miasta Krakowa. W ramach tego programu prowadziłam badania z zakresu poprawy bezpieczeństwa 16 obiektów edukacyjnych, opracowując w 2018 r. wytyczne architektoniczno-urbanistyczne pt. „Przybornik bezpiecznej przestrzeni”. W skład zespołu weszli Prof. Maciej Motak, Dr Krzysztof Kwiatkowski i arch. Marek Leja.

Prowadzę szeroko zakrojoną współpracę międzynarodową naukową i dydaktyczną z wybitnymi ośrodkami  europejskimi, jak UPC Barcelona-Tech, TU Delft, Technische Universität Dresden, Czech Technical University in Prague, Hochschule für angewandte Wissenschaft und Kunst – HAWK Hildesheim, Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft – HTW Dresden, Université de Mons i University of Chalmers, University of Bremen i Braganza.  Odbyłam w ostatnich latach staże naukowe na Technische Universität Wien w ramach stypendium CEEPUS (OeAD) w 2015 r. i na  UPC Barcelona pod kierunkiem Prof. Carlosa Marmolejo Duarte w okresie 02-07.2023 r.

W latach 2013-2019 uczestniczyłam w programach dot. depopulacji miast Saksonii-Anhalt, finansowanych m.in. przez Land Saksonii-Anhalt – Ministry for Regional Development and Transport i urzędy miast. Program koordynowało Kompetenzzentrum Stadumbau – Magdeburg i HTW Dresden. Partnerami byli m.in.: TU Delft, Politechnika Krakowska, Ghent University, Univeristy of Chalmers – Gothenburg, Szent István University Budapest / Gödöllö, Lahti University of Applied Sciences and University of Padova. Programy objęły miasta Wernigerode – Schierke am Broken (2013), Halle Neustadt (2014), Magdeburg (2017), Selb-As (2018) i Freiberg (2019).

Byłam kierownikiem z ramienia PK zespołu interdyscyplinarnego realizującego I i II etap grantu wdrożeniowego NCBiR w strumieniu Budownictwo społeczne – efektywne energetycznie i procesowo, w ramach konsorcjum – DMD_M – którego liderem było DMD Modular, a partnerami PK i Lightoffo (do 2022 r.), a Partnerem Strategicznym UM Mysłowice. Rozwiązania energetyczne uwzględniały systemy wypracowane w projekcie RESHEAT (grant Horyzont 2020), budynek rozwiązano jako zeroenergetyczny, a nawet plusenergetyczny. Działania objęły projekt 2021-22 i realizację budynku w 2023 r. Wielorodzinny budynek socjalny, wykonany w technice wolumetrycznej 3-D, efektywny energetycznie i procesowo, zrealizowany przy ul. Karola Miarki 28 w Mysłowicach, otrzymał Nagrodę  PLGBC Green Building Award – jako Zrównoważony Produkt Roku w 2023 roku.

Brałam udział w projektach badawczych dla UM Krakowa w ramach współpracy Politechniki Krakowskiej dla tematu Zielone Sąsiedztwo (2021), a także Zielone Standardy dla zabudowy komunalnej Krakowa (2022-2023). Od 2024 r. jestem członkiem Zespołu Doradczego Portfela Projektów “Zeroemisyjny Kraków”.

Od 2024 r. kieruję interdyscyplinarnym zespołem z PK realizującym Grant HORIZON-CL5-2023-D4-01 – ”FuturHist” – “An integrated typology-based approach to guide the future development of European historic buildings towards a clean energy transition” (2024-2027). Projekt koordynowany jest przez EURAC Bolzano, w pracach zaangażowanych jest 17 instytucji, m.in. ICOMOS, INTBAU. PK koordynuje m.in. realizację rozwiązań demonstracyjnych w budynku ZBK, przy ulicy Kościuszki 18 w Krakowie. W projekcie badamy skalowalność rozwiązań – w skalach urbanistycznych, typologie architektoniczne, nadzorujemy działania projektowe, monitoring i badania dot. zastosowanych rozwiązań. Zajmujemy się również dysseminacją rezultatów i edukacją.

Byłam organizatorem Międzynarodowych Konferencji Katedry Urbanistyki i Architektury Struktur Miejskich WAPK, w tym: przewodniczącą – Urban Composition of Resilient City (2021), współprzewodniczącą Wise City (2023) i Wise City II (2024). Jako Kierownik Katedry współorganizowałam  Międzynarodową Konferencję ISUF – XIX Conference of the International Seminar on Urban Form 2022, Łódź- Kraków, pt. „Urban Redevelopment and Revitalisation  – a Multidisciplinary Perspective”.

Realizuję współpracę urbanistyczno-planistyczną, naukową i dydaktyczną na rzecz miast/gmin (2013-2023): Miechowa, Skawiny, Sandomierza, Koźmina Wlkp., Mogilan, Rabki, Golubia-Dobrzynia, Hrubieszowa i Mysłowic.

Kieruję od 2023 r. Sekcją Urbanistyki Komisji Urbanistyki i Architektury Oddziału PAN w Krakowie.  Za osiągnięcia naukowe i dydaktyczne, a także organizacyjne, otrzymałam nagrody Rektora PK i Dziekana WA PK, Medal Jubileuszowy 60-lecia WA PK, Odznakę Honorową PK; za działalność społeczną ― Medal 800-lecia Bieżanowa; Medal Brązowy za Długoletnią Służbę i Brązowy Krzyż Zasługi.

D O Ś W I A D C Z E N I E   Z A W O D O W E

Jestem czynnym urbanistą i architektem. Odbyłam prestiżową praktykę w zespole Morphosis Architects, w Los Angeles, pod kierunkiem Thoma Mayne’a (1993–1994). Pracowałam przy nagradzanych projektach, m.in.: Landa i Blades Residence, Diamond Ranch High School w Pomonie i M*A*S*H* w Las Vegas (jestem też autorką projektu okładki specjalnego wydania „A+U Morphosis”). Po studiach byłam zatrudniona w pracowniach w Berlinie i Poczdamie, m.in. w FOCKE Architekten (1996–1997/98). Od 1999 r. prowadzę wraz z mężem Arch. Markiem Leją pracownię architektury i wnętrz „Studio L” w Krakowie. Uprawnienia zawodowe posiadam od 2001 r.

Brałam udział w opracowaniu wielu projektów urbanistycznych, m.in. w zespole prof. zw. dr hab. inż. arch. Andrzeja Wyżykowskiego i prof. zw. dr hab. inż. arch. Zbigniewa Zuziak [pierwsza nagroda UM Krakowa za projekt Obszaru Strategicznego Dąbie (1996 r.); wyróżnienie SARP za projekt „Wolne Tory” w Poznaniu (1997 r.)]. W 2007 r. wraz z zespołem otrzymałam II Nagrodę SARP za koncepcję zagospodarowania obszaru ronda Mogilskiego. Prace audytorskie z zakresu przestrzeni bezpiecznych w ramach Programu „Bezpieczne Gimnazjum” i „Bezpieczna Szkoła” (2003-2005) i “Bezpieczny Kraków” (2018-19).

Realizowałam projekty  urbanistyczne i opracowania planistyczne, w tym oparte o proces partycypacyjny jak m.in.: Węzeł transportowy Bonarka-Kraków (2016), Rewitalizacja Centrum Skawiny i węzła transportowego (2021-2022), Parku Gubałówka w Skawinie (2023), Koncepcja Centrum dla Czechowic-Dziedzic (2024). Prace realizowane były w zespole autorskim wraz z Dr Tomaszem Jeleńskim i Arch. Markiem Leją.

D O R O B E K   D Y D A K T Y C Z N Y

Do moich pierwszych osiągnięć dydaktycznych należy zaliczyć pracę w zespole pod kierunkiem Prof. zw.  Andrzeja Wyżykowskiego, który w latach 1999–2000, doprowadził do uzyskania przez WA PK prestiżowej akredytacji Royal Institute of British Architects. Jako pełnomocnik Dziekana WAPK koordynowałam wizytę walidacyjną RIBA w 2005 r., a także współredagowałam  „Faculty Guide” (2005). Redagowałam również nową edycję „Rocznika WA PK” w 2001 r. i 2003 r. prezentującą osiągnięcia dydatyczne i naukowe kadry naukowej i studentów WA PK. 

W latach 2007–2010 pełniłam funkcję pełnomocnika koordynatora ds. Programu Erasmus na WA PK, będąc odpowiedzialną za wyjazdy zagraniczne i przyjazdy studentów do Polski, prace obejmowała przygotowanie transkryptów ocen, opiekę organizacyjną i merytoryczną wymiany międzynarodowej na poziomie około 100 studentów w semestrze.

Koordynowałam w latach 2009-2012 i prowadziłam wraz z prof. Krzysztofem Biedą międzynarodowy projekt naukowo-dydaktyczny „Facing Impact of the Second World War ― Urban Design in Contemporary European Cities”. W ramach tego zorganizowałam warsztaty w Oświęcimiu (2009), Rotterdamie (2011) i Dreźnie (2012).  Projekt wyróżniony został publikacją niemieckiego DAAD i główną nagrodą w konkursie „EDUinspiracje” jako najlepszy projekt z zakresu szkolnictwa wyższego w Programie Erasmus+ w Polsce w 2014 r.

Od 2008 roku prowadzę i koordynuję międzynarodowe programy dydaktyczne, w których uczestniczyło nawet kilkuset studentów WAPK, podnosząc swoje kompetencje zawodowe, dydaktyczne, społeczne i językowe. Jestem autorem metodyki interdyscyplinarnych warsztatów – w formie krótkich programów intensywnych. W ostatniej dekadzie koordynowałam i prowadziłam m.in. międzynarodowe warsztaty urbanistyczne w Krakowie (2023 i 2024), Dreźnie (2023 i 2012), w Pradze, Strasbourgu i Charleroi (2022), w Selb-As (2019), Goeteborgu (2018), Magdeburgu (2017), Halle-Neustadt (2014), Schierke (2013) i w Nowym Targu (2015). Programy te realizowane były przy współpracy z TU Delft, Technische Universität – TU Dresden, Czech Technical University – CTU Prague, , Hochschule für angewandte Wissenschaft und Kunst   – HAWK Hildesheim, Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft – HTW Dresden, Université de Mons i University of Chalmers, University of Bremen i Braganza.  Doświadczenia te integruję w pracach kursowych i dyplomowych. W prace włączane są instytucje samorządowe, jak Kompetenzzentrum Stadtumbau w Magdeburgu i Land Saksonia-Anhalt (badania dotyczą m.in. depopulacji i miast kurczących się).

Koordynuję również prace Koła Naukowego Urban Lab, angażując studentów w prace naukowe, również w ramach Grantu Horyzont Futurhist, a także TIG-u Living Spaces Stars EU, które prezentowane były na sesjach naukowych międzynarodowej konferencji Wise City.

W działania dydaktyczne włączam współpracę z gminami, ucząc studentów pracy w rodzimym kontekście. Współpraca ta dotyczyła gmin.: Miechów (2013-14), UM Skawina (2016-17), UM Sandomierz (2017-2018), Koźmin Wielkopolski (2018-2020), Gmina Mogilany (2019-20), UM Rabka (2020-21), UM Golub-Dobrzyń (2021-22), UM Hrubieszów (2021-22), UM Mysłowice (2022-23) i Kraków – Nowe Miasto (2023).

Jako Student Studiów Doktoranckich od 1998, a od 2001 r. jako pracownik Wydziału Architektury Politechniki Krakowskiej prowadzę zajęcia i wykłady z zakresu projektowania urbanistycznego i planowania przestrzennego, komunikacji miejskiej, projektowania zespołów i budynków wielorodzinnych – na kierunkach architektura, gospodarka przestrzenna. Prowadzę również zajęcia w języku angielskim (BA Arch./MA Arch. WAPK).

Od 2022 roku prowadzę zajęcia dla studentów chińskich w ramach International School of Engineering ISE na kierunku architektura i architektura krajobrazu. Jestem promotorem prac dyplomowych magisterskich na obu kierunkach.  W czerwcu 2024 roku byłam odpowiedzialna za koordynację z ramienia WAPK pierwszego procesu dyplomowania grupy absolwentów ISE w Tijanjin.

Prowadziłam w latach 2016-2018 zajęcia i dyplomy na certyfikowanym jako „Studia z Przyszłością” przez Fundację Rozwoju Edukacji i Szkolnictwa Wyższego kierunku Zarządzanie Zrównoważonym Rozwojem Miast w Międzynarodowym Centrum Kształcenia PK. 

W latach 2006–2019 byłam współpromotorem, a od 2019 r. jestem samodzielnym promotorem ponad 150 dyplomów magisterskich i inżynierskich z zakresu urbanistyki i architektury, a także na prowadzonym wspólnie przez WA, WIL i WIŚ PK kierunku gospodarka przestrzenna. Dyplomy realizowane były także we współpracy z HAWK Hildesheim, HTW Dresden, Université de Mons.

Prace dyplomowe moich studentów były nagradzane przez TUP, TISE, wyróżniane przez „Akademię A&B”, nominowane do nagrody Dyplom Roku SARP, honorowane Nagrodą Miasta Krakowa (w 2020 r.). Otrzymały wyróżnienia w konkursach Wydziału Architektury na najlepsze prace dyplomowe. W ostatnim roku prace pod moim kierunkiem uzyskały Nagrodę Ministra Rozwoju (2024) i Infrastruktury (2024), były nagrodzone w konkursie im. Marszałka Marka Nawary „Respektus” (2024), wyróżniane w konkursie w ramach stypendium SARP im. Prof. B. Lisowskiego (2024) i in.

W międzynarodowym na rozwiązania przestrzenne dla Kampusu Czyżyny PK grupy studentów pod moim kierunkiem uzyskali Nagrodę Urbanistyczną i Główną Nagrodę Rektora PK, Wyróżnienie w kategorii Architektura i Wyróżnienie w Kategorii Open.

ACADEMIC AND SCIENTIFIC ACHIEVEMENTS

In 1995, I graduated with distinction from the five-year Master’s degree programme in Architecture and Urban Planning at the Faculty of Architecture of the Cracow University of Technology. My diploma thesis, entitled “Revitalisation of a Fragment of the Copenhagen Waterfront”, was prepared under the supervision of Professor Andrzej Wyżykowski. The thesis was nominated for the SARP Diploma of the Year Award (1995) and was presented at the Gallery Foksal as part of an exhibition of the best Polish diploma projects.

During my studies, I completed an internship at the Institute of Urbanism at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) in Barcelona under the supervision of Professor Joan Busquets (1991). In 1991 and 1992, I undertook summer internships in the conservation of historic buildings in Provence within the framework of L’APARE. I was awarded a one-year scholarship at the College of Architecture and Planning at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, USA (1992–1993), where I pursued partial studies in architecture. In the years 1993–1994, I completed a professional internship under the supervision of Professor Thom Mayne at Morphosis Architects in Los Angeles.

During my doctoral studies at the Faculty of Architecture of the Cracow University of Technology (1997–2000), I was a recipient of a TEMPUS PHARE Programme scholarship, which enabled me to complete a four-month research internship at the Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia (IUAV) in 1997 under the supervision of Professor Gianugo Polesello. I was also awarded a KBN Promoter Grant (2000–2003) to conduct research entitled “The Shaping of Contemporary Covered Public Spaces and Their Significance in the Process of Urban Space Revitalisation.” I defended my doctoral dissertation under the same title at the Faculty of Architecture of the Cracow University of Technology in 2003, in the discipline of urban design and spatial planning. The supervisor of the dissertation was Professor Andrzej Wyżykowski.

In 2002, I co-organised an international symposium on Central European countries in cooperation with the Technische Universität Graz and the Austrian Consulate General. I was also the author of the concept for an exhibition of Polish and Austrian architecture held at the Jagiellonian Library, accompanying the symposium.Początek formularza

Between 2009 and 2012, I served as coordinator and, together with Professor Krzysztof Bieda, led the international research and teaching project “Facing the Impact of the Second World War — Urban Design in Contemporary European Cities.” The results of this internationally conducted research were disseminated in my habilitation thesis entitled “City and War — the Impact of the Second World War on Transformations of the Spatial Structure and the Contemporary Urban Condition of Selected European Cities” (Cracow University of Technology Press, Kraków 2019). The monograph was awarded the Minister of Development Award in 2020. On 8 January 2020, the Scientific Council of the Faculty of Architecture of the Cracow University of Technology conferred upon me the degree of Habilitated Doctor in the field of technical sciences, discipline: architecture and urban planning. Since 1 March 2020, I have held the position of Professor at the Cracow University of Technology.

Since 2001, I have been affiliated with the Institute of Urban Design at the Cracow University of Technology. I worked at the Chair of Revitalisation and Development of Urban Complexes (KRiRZU), and subsequently at the Division of Shaping Transportation Spaces, initially as a research and teaching assistant and, since 2007, as an assistant professor (adiunkt). In the years 2013–2019, I served as Deputy Director of the Institute of Urban Design. Since its establishment in 2020, I have been Head of the Chair of Urban Design and Architecture of Urban Structures (A-9).

I am the author and co-author of more than 80 scientific publications and 25 popular science publications in the fields of urban design and architecture, including numerous high-ranking publications indexed in Scopus and the Web of Science. I am the author of one outstanding monograph and co-author of three additional monographs. My academic output also includes more than 40 conference presentations in urban design and planning at both international and national conferences, including international events in Barcelona, Prague, Graz, Beirut, and Saint Petersburg, as well as lectures delivered at European universities, including TU Wien, HTW Dresden, and institutions in Rotterdam. My research focuses on urban processes in areas of transformation and post–Second World War reconstruction, as well as climate change adaptation and transportation-related determinants.

I am also an expert in the field of socially safe spaces. I began research in this area in 2003 together with the team of the Chair of Revitalisation and Development of Urban Complexes, implementing a KBN Grant (2003–2004) under the supervision of Professor Andrzej Wyżykowski, and co-authoring the monograph “Safe Space: Urban and Architectural Determinants of Shaping Urban Space to Increase Residents’ Safety” (2004). I collaborated with institutions in the Małopolska region within the programmes “Safe Lower Secondary School” and “Safe School,” carrying out, on a pro bono basis, several dozen safety audits of schools in the Małopolskie Voivodeship and in Kraków (together with Dr Eng. Arch. Krzysztof Kwiatkowski). In recent years, in cooperation with the Jagiellonian University (2018–2019), I participated in the “Safe Kraków” programme implemented for the City of Kraków. Within this programme, I conducted research aimed at improving the safety of 16 educational facilities and, in 2018, developed architectural and urban design guidelines entitled “The Safe Space Toolkit.” The project team included Professor Maciej Motak, Dr Krzysztof Kwiatkowski, and architect Marek Leja.

I maintain extensive international research and teaching cooperation with leading European institutions, including UPC BarcelonaTech, TU Delft, Technische Universität Dresden, Czech Technical University in Prague, Hochschule für angewandte Wissenschaft und Kunst (HAWK) Hildesheim, Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft (HTW) Dresden, Université de Mons, Chalmers University of Technology, the University of Bremen, and the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança. In recent years, I completed research fellowships at Technische Universität Wien under a CEEPUS (OeAD) scholarship in 2015, and at UPC BarcelonaTech under the supervision of Professor Carlos Marmolejo Duarte from February to July 2023.

Between 2013 and 2019, I participated in programmes addressing urban depopulation in cities of Saxony-Anhalt, financed inter alia by the State of Saxony-Anhalt – Ministry for Regional Development and Transport, as well as by municipal authorities. The programmes were coordinated by Kompetenzzentrum Stadumbau Magdeburg and HTW Dresden. Partner institutions included TU Delft, the Cracow University of Technology, Ghent University, Chalmers University of Technology (Gothenburg), Szent István University (Budapest/Gödöllő), Lahti University of Applied Sciences, and the University of Padua. The programmes covered the cities of Wernigerode – Schierke am Brocken (2013), Halle-Neustadt (2014), Magdeburg (2017), Selb-As (2018), and Freiberg (2019).

I served as the Cracow University of Technology lead for an interdisciplinary team implementing Phases I and II of an NCBiR implementation grant within the “Social Housing – Energy- and Process-Efficient Construction” stream, carried out by the DMD_M consortium. The consortium was led by DMD Modular, with partners including the Cracow University of Technology and Lightoffo (until 2022), and the City of Mysłowice as Strategic Partner. The energy solutions incorporated systems developed within the RESHEAT project (Horizon 2020). The building was designed as a net-zero-energy and even energy-plus facility. The activities covered the design phase (2021–2022) and construction in 2023. The multi-family social housing building, constructed using volumetric 3D technology and characterised by high energy and process efficiency, completed at 28 Karola Miarki Street in Mysłowice, received the PLGBC Green Building Award 2023 in the category “Sustainable Product of the Year.”

I participated in research projects for the City of Kraków conducted within the framework of cooperation with the Cracow University of Technology, including the “Green Neighbourhood” project (2021) and the “Green Standards for Municipal Housing in Kraków” project (2022–2023). Since 2024, I have been a member of the Advisory Team of the “Zero-Emission Kraków” Project Portfolio.

Since 2024, I have led an interdisciplinary team from the Cracow University of Technology implementing the Horizon Europe grant HORIZON-CL5-2023-D4-01 “FuturHist – An Integrated Typology-Based Approach to Guide the Future Development of European Historic Buildings towards a Clean Energy Transition” (2024–2027). The project is coordinated by EURAC Research (Bolzano) and involves 17 institutions, including ICOMOS and INTBAU. The Cracow University of Technology coordinates, among other tasks, the implementation of demonstration solutions in a building managed by ZBK at 18 Kościuszki Street in Kraków. Within the project, we investigate the scalability of solutions at the urban scale, architectural typologies, supervise design activities, monitoring and research related to the applied solutions, and are responsible for dissemination of results and educational activities.

I have organised international conferences of the Chair of Urban Design and Architecture of Urban Structures at the Faculty of Architecture of the Cracow University of Technology, including serving as Chair of Urban Composition of the Resilient City (2021), Co-Chair of Wise City (2023), and Wise City II (2024). As Head of the Chair, I also co-organised the XIX ISUF Conference – International Seminar on Urban Form (2022, Łódź–Kraków), entitled “Urban Redevelopment and Revitalisation – a Multidisciplinary Perspective.”

I have carried out urban planning, research, and teaching cooperation for cities and municipalities (2013–2023), including Miechów, Skawina, Sandomierz, Koźmin Wielkopolski, Mogilany, Rabka, Golub-Dobrzyń, Hrubieszów, and Mysłowice.

Since 2023, I have served as Head of the Urban Planning Section of the Committee of Urban Planning and Architecture of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN), Kraków Branch. For my scientific, teaching, and organisational achievements, I have received awards from the Rector of the Cracow University of Technology and the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, the Jubilee Medal of the 60th Anniversary of the Faculty of Architecture, the Cracow University of Technology Honorary Badge, as well as distinctions for social engagement, including the Medal of the 800th Anniversary of Bieżanów, the Bronze Medal for Long Service, and the Bronze Cross of Merit.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

I am a practicing urban planner and architect. I completed a prestigious professional internship with Morphosis Architects in Los Angeles under the supervision of Thom Mayne (1993–1994). I worked on award-winning projects, including the Landa and Blades Residence, Diamond Ranch High School in Pomona, and MASH in Las Vegas, and I was also the author of the cover design for a special issue of A+U Morphosis. After completing my studies, I was employed at architectural practices in Berlin and Potsdam, including FOCKE Architekten (1996–1997/98). Since 1999, I have been co-running an architecture and interior design practice, Studio L, in Kraków together with my husband, architect Marek Leja. I have held professional architectural and urban planning licences since 2001.

I have participated in the development of numerous urban design projects, including work within the teams led by Professor Andrzej Wyżykowski and Professor Zbigniew Zuziak, resulting in, inter alia, the First Prize of the City of Kraków for the Strategic Area Dąbie project (1996) and an award from the Association of Polish Architects (SARP) for the “Wolne Tory” project in Poznań (1997). In 2007, together with my team, I received the Second Prize of SARP for the concept of development of the Mogilskie Roundabout area. I have also carried out audit and consultancy work in the field of socially safe spaces within the “Safe Lower Secondary School” and “Safe School” programmes (2003–2005), as well as the “Safe Kraków” programme (2018–2019).

I have developed urban design projects and planning studies, including those based on participatory processes, such as the Bonarka transport hub in Kraków (2016), the revitalisation of Skawina city centre and transport hub (2021–2022), the Gubałówka Park in Skawina (2023), and the concept for the town centre of Czechowice-Dziedzice (2024). These projects were carried out within an authorial team together with Dr Tomasz Jeleński and architect Marek Leja.

TEACHING AND EDUCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS

My early teaching achievements include work within the team led by Professor Andrzej Wyżykowski which, in the years 1999–2000, successfully secured the prestigious accreditation of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) for the Faculty of Architecture of the Cracow University of Technology. As the Dean’s Representative at the Faculty of Architecture, I coordinated the RIBA validation visit in 2005 and co-edited the Faculty Guide (2005). I also edited new editions of the Faculty of Architecture Yearbook in 2001 and 2003, presenting the teaching and research achievements of academic staff and students of the Faculty.

Between 2007 and 2010, I served as Deputy Coordinator for the Erasmus Programme at the Faculty of Architecture, where I was responsible for outgoing and incoming student mobility. My duties included the preparation of transcripts of records as well as organisational and academic supervision of international exchanges involving approximately 100 students per semester.

From 2009 to 2012, I coordinated and, together with Professor Krzysztof Bieda, led the international research and teaching project “Facing the Impact of the Second World War — Urban Design in Contemporary European Cities.” Within this framework, I organised international workshops in Oświęcim (2009), Rotterdam (2011), and Dresden (2012). The project was recognised through publication by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and received the main award in the EDUinspiracje competition as the best higher education project within the Erasmus+ Programme in Poland (2014).

Since 2008, I have coordinated and delivered international educational programmes involving up to several hundred students of the Faculty of Architecture, contributing to the development of their professional, teaching, social, and language competences. I am the author of a methodology for interdisciplinary workshops implemented in the form of short intensive programmes. Over the past decade, I have coordinated and led international urban design workshops, inter alia, in Kraków (2023, 2024), Dresden (2023, 2012), Prague, Strasbourg, and Charleroi (2022), Selb-As (2019), Gothenburg (2018), Magdeburg (2017), Halle-Neustadt (2014), Schierke (2013), and Nowy Targ (2015). These programmes were delivered in cooperation with TU Delft, Technische Universität Dresden, Czech Technical University (CTU) in Prague, Hochschule für angewandte Wissenschaft und Kunst (HAWK) Hildesheim, Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft (HTW) Dresden, Université de Mons, Chalmers University of Technology, the University of Bremen, and the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança. I integrate these experiences into coursework and diploma projects, involving local and regional authorities such as the Kompetenzzentrum Stadtumbau in Magdeburg and the State of Saxony-Anhalt, particularly in research on depopulation and shrinking cities.

I also coordinate the activities of the Urban Lab Student Research Group, engaging students in research activities, including within the Horizon Europe FuturHist project and the TIG Living Spaces Stars EU initiative, the results of which have been presented at scientific sessions of the international Wise City conference.

My teaching activities incorporate cooperation with municipalities, enabling students to work within real local contexts. This cooperation has included the municipalities of Miechów (2013–2014), Skawina (2016–2017), Sandomierz (2017–2018), Koźmin Wielkopolski (2018–2020), Mogilany (2019–2020), Rabka (2020–2021), Golub-Dobrzyń (2021–2022), Hrubieszów (2021–2022), Mysłowice (2022–2023), and Kraków – Nowe Miasto (2023).

Since 1998, initially as a doctoral student and, from 2001, as a member of the academic staff of the Faculty of Architecture of the Cracow University of Technology, I have taught and delivered lectures in urban design and spatial planning, urban transport, and the design of residential complexes and multi-family housing, within the programmes of Architecture and Spatial Management. I also teach courses delivered in English (BA Arch./MA Arch., Faculty of Architecture).

Since 2022, I have taught Chinese students within the International School of Engineering (ISE) in the fields of Architecture and Landscape Architecture. I serve as a supervisor of master’s theses in both programmes. In June 2024, I was responsible, on behalf of the Faculty of Architecture, for coordinating the first diploma examination process for a cohort of ISE graduates in Tianjin.

Between 2016 and 2018, I taught courses and supervised diploma projects in the Sustainable Urban Development Management programme at the International Centre of Education of the Cracow University of Technology, which is certified as “Studies of the Future” by the Foundation for the Development of Education and Higher Education.

From 2006 to 2019, I served as a co-supervisor and, since 2019, as the principal supervisor of more than 150 master’s and engineering diploma theses in urban design and architecture, as well as in the interdisciplinary programme of Spatial Management jointly delivered by the Faculties of Architecture, Civil Engineering, and Environmental Engineering of the Cracow University of Technology. Diploma projects were also completed in cooperation with HAWK Hildesheim, HTW Dresden, and Université de Mons.

The diploma projects supervised by me have received awards from TUP and TISE, distinctions from the Academy A&B, nominations for the SARP Diploma of the Year Award, and the City of Kraków Award (2020). They have also been recognised in Faculty of Architecture competitions for the best diploma projects. In the most recent year, projects supervised by me received the Minister of Development Award (2024) and the Minister of Infrastructure Award (2024), were awarded in the Marshal Marek Nawara “Respektus” Competition (2024), and received distinctions in the SARP scholarship competition named after Professor B. Lisowski (2024), among others.

In an international competition for spatial solutions for the Czyżyny Campus of the Cracow University of Technology, student teams supervised by me received the Urban Planning Award and the Grand Prize of the Rector of the Cracow University of Technology, as well as distinctions in the Architecture category and the Open category.
