Serdecznie zapraszamy do wzięcia udziału w planowanym seminarium ISUF Polska. Pragniemy niniejszym zainaugurować cykl spotkań poświęconych morfologii urbanistycznej.
Radical Change or Careful Reinterpretation? Urban Form in Ecological Transition
The word “radical” is understood in many ways. In political debate, it marks the edges of acceptable discourse and the demand for fundamental change. In ecology, it suggests deep, systemic transformation and attention to the roots of ecological processes. When applied to urban form, these meanings meet and sometimes collide.
Etymologically, “radical” refers to the root (Latin radix). A radical approach to urban morphology may therefore return to the foundations of the city: its street network, plot pattern and building fabric, together with the topography, soils and hydrology on which it was established. Radical may also mean a decisive break with the past, as in modernist reconstruction, or a critical stance towards the privatisation of public space, a space for political debate. Among other possible threads, the seminar opens a discussion on how urban form shapes ecological performance, from urban heat to habitat connectivity. It invites participants to consider whether radical ecological change requires bold new interventions or the careful reinterpretation of persistent morphological structures
